Canucks defeat Ducks 3-0

The Vancouver canucks have gone 2-0 in the pre-season after beating the Anaheim Ducks last night in a 3-0 shut-out.  Roberto Luongo was in net for the Canucks for the first two periods and stopped all 19 shots tossed his way, while Cory Schneider took over in goal for the third and stopped all 9 shots to preserve the shut-out.

Canucks goal-scorers included Steve Bernier, Kevin Bieksa, and Aaron Rome.  Bernier looked great on the ice, having lost 20 pounds in the off-season, he appeared to be in mid-season form.  Kyle Wellwood was buzzing around as well, and looks like he wants to be cemented into this organization for a long time to come.

The Canucks play again tonight in their 3rd preseason game, this time against the San Jose Sharks, in san jose, and the puck drops at 7:30pm.  You can watch the game live online at Canucks.com.

Shirokov Scores Twice in Win

Sergei Shirokov helped his case to make a roster spot on the Vancouver Canucks last night, as he scored both of Vancouver’s goals in a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders. His first goal made the game 2-1 for the Canucks, when he one-timed a pass into a gaping hole in the Islanders net. It was a goal-scorers goal and hopefully one of many more to come for the young russian who was playing his first NHL game with the Vancouver Canucks.

John Sim of the Islanders tied the game up midway through the second period. It wasn’t enough for the win though, as Vancouver came back in the third period and made it a 2-1 game off another tip-in from Shirokov.

Brad Lukowich looked great with a few big hits, as it was also his first game with the Canucks. Andrew Raycroft shared the goaltending duties with Cory Schneider, and both made great saves throughout, with Raycroft letting in the only Islanders goal.

The Canucks are back in Vancouver today to continue their pre-season schedule.

Canucks Stellar Preseason Ends in OT Loss

Anaheim 4 – Canucks 3

The Canucks just couldn’t pull off a perfect pre-season, after heading into Sundays game against the Ducks, the Canucks had won all 6 of their preseason games.

Vancouver fell behind half way into the first period when Mattias Olund was sitting out for a 5 minute major for boarding, and former Canucks Brendan Morrison scored on the power play to make it 1-0.  It was back and forth all game, featuring a toal of 4 power play goals, 3 of them by Vancouver.

One of the plays of the night was Mason Raymond’s best impression of a young Pavel Bure, going around the offensive zone with complete control of the puck, deking back and forth before lifting the puck up into the back of the net.  Raymond looks extremely promising for the regular season, and will definitely be one to watch.

Goals in Sunday’s game were scored by: Henrik Sedin (Daniel Sedin, Kyle Wellwood), Mason raymond (Alex Edler, Pavol Demitra), Mason Raymond (Pavol Demitra, Alex Edler).

The Canucks pre-season is now over, and they will open the regular season at home at GM Place on Thursday te 9th vs the Calgary Flames.  The game will be broadcast on CBC as well as played live on Team1040 am.  You can listen to the Canucks games live at http://www.team1040.ca

Canucks Win vs Sharks

Canucks Beat Sharks, Make it Six Straight Preseason Wins

A 5 point night for the Sedin twins capped off a good night for the Canucks as they managed to keep the San Jose Sharks down and out to complete their 6th straight win and keep their preseason record perfect.  It was a see-saw game on the scoreboard again, with both teams trading goalsback and forth after the Sharks got on the board 17:25 into the first period.

Shots in tonight’s game were much more even as well as penalties.  The Sharks outshot the Canucks, with a margin of 33-20.  In the penalty department, the Canucks were able to keep the Sharks off the board while killing their penalties, making them go 0 for 7.  The Canucks, on the other hand, made good use of their power play time, going 2 for 6 on the power play.

Curtis Saford played in goal, receing the third star for his efforts, especially blanking the Sharks on the thirteen shots they put his way in the third period.

Goals were scored by these Canucks tonight: Steve Bernier PP Goal (Sami Salo, Daniel Sedin), Daniel Sedin PP Goal (Kevin Bieksa, Henrik Sedin), and Henrik Sedin (Kevin Bieksa, Daniel Sedin).

Canucks Win 5 Straight

Flames burn 6-1 as Canucks continue to go undefeated in pre-season.

Alex Edler made it 1-0 for the Canucks 21 seconds into the 1st period, and it was pretty much Vancouver all the way in from there.  The Canucks were outshot by the Flames tonight 36 – 23, by new canucks captain Roberto Luongo led his team to victory, with big nights from all four canuck lines.

One thing that is starting to haunt the Canucks again, is their lac of discipline.  They had 9 penalties (21 minutes worth), compared to Calgary’s six, but thankfully Calgary couldn’t convert, even on 2 minutes of 5 on 3 time.

Jannik Hansen showed his potential for a roster spot come regular season with a two goal effort, and both Alexander Burrows and Ryan Kesler has 3 assists each.  Goals for Vancouver came from Alex Edler (Pavol Demitra, Taylor Pyatt), Jannik Hansen (Ryan Kesler, Alexander Burrows), Pavol Demitra (Kyle Wellwood, Lawrence Nycholat), Lawrence Nycholat (Alexander Burrows, Ryan Kesler), Jannik Hansen (Ryan Kesler, Alexander Burrows), and Mason Raymond (Pavol Demitra, Mike Brown).

The Vancouver Canucks play Thursdy the 2nd against the San Jose Sharks at 7pm at GM Place.  Check out the resource below for tickets to an upcoming San Jose Sharks and Canucks game!
