Canucks Clinch Northwest, Play St Louis on Wednesday

Canucks playoffs start Wednesday

After defeating the Colorado Avalanche in a BORING and bad performance (after the first 10 minutes of the first period anyway) on Saturday afternoon, the Canucks sealed the Northwest Division title.  It’s the Canucks’ second Northwest division title in 3 years.  It looked like the Canucks would end up playing Columbus in the first round but with St Louis defeating the Avalanche they moved up and will now meet the Canucks.  The St Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks playoff series ought to be a 7 game series, as the teams were 2-2 during the regular season series, and have a long time relationship of St Louis defeating the Canucks, especially during the regular season.  They seem to be Canucks killers.  The Blues are red hot lately, going 7-1-1 in their last 9 (if I remember correctly), and the Canucks will have to pressure the Blues to help out Roberto Luongo on the back end.  I’m sure all Canucks fans remeber the Vancouver and St Louis match-up in the 03 playoffs, that went 7 games with the Canucks taking the series.  Hopefully it goes the same way this year.

The Canucks play against the Blues Wednesday April 15th 2009, at GM Place to open the first round of the Western Conference Quarter-finals Stanley Cup Playoffs.  The game will be on CBC at 7pm, and you can listen to the game live online via streaming internet radio at Team1040.ca.

Canucks vs Blues

St. Louis Comes to Town

Another big game tonight for the Vancouver Canucks. The St Louis Blues will be in town to play the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 7pm, and if Vancouver can pull out another win, it will be 11 wins in a row at home, which will break the franchise record set on Tuesday night.  The Canucks are still sitting in 4th in the Western Conference, the importance of a win tonight can not be understated.

Looks like Pavol Demitra may not play, as he had x-rays done this morning on his knee, and did not particpate in the morning skate.  Taylor Pyatt will move up to the second line with Sundin and Kesler, and Hansen will fill in for Pyatt.  I’m not sure of Pyatt’s move up, I’d rather see Hansen or Wellwood up with Sundin and Demitra on the 2nd line, but i’m not Vigneault, so I can’t make those calls!

Anyways, the game, Canucks against Blues, starts tonight at 7pm and is on Sportsnet, and live streaming online at the Team1040.ca
