Ducks Beat Canucks

Canucks slip to 2nd in Northwest battle

I don’t have alot of time to blog tonight, so this one will be short and sweet.  The Canucks were down 2-0 after the first period, and climbed to a 4-2 lead early in the second period.  The Sedin twins and Alex Burrows had another great game again, providing alot of highlights and action in the Ducks zone.  The Ducks did however, tie the game up at 5-5 before the end of the second period.  The game ended up going to the shoot-out, and after Pavol Demitra missed  and hit the post on the Canucks first shot attempt, they never did score.  Ducks win it in the shoot-out.  If you ask me, they need to shake up the 2nd and 3rd lines.  Demitra looks more and more like a slug out there, and the only player making a whole lot of action happen on the 2nd line is Ryan Kesler.  I’m not “feeling it” when it comes to the 2nd line right now.  The third line, on the other hand, is playing great.  Maybe promote Wellwood up to the 2nd and send Demitra to the third, I’m not sure.  Just something has to be done.

The Calgary Flames played the Dallas Stars as well, and won in regulation.  With the Canucks now tied in points with the Flames, the Canucks slip to 4th in the Western Conference and 2nd in the Northwest Division.  With the single point though, the Canucks do clinch a playoff spot.  The Canucks play the Flames on tuesday, which could end up being, the must win game of the season.  It sure is matching up to be that way.

The Canucks play again on saturday night April 4 on the road against the Edmonton Oilers, the game starts at 7:00pm, and can be seen on tv on CBC, and listen live online streaming radio at Team1040.ca

Vancouver Canucks Play the Ducks Tonight

Game in Anaheim, Can They Make up for Monday’s Loss to LA?

Anaheim last played Minnesota on Sunday night, and lost that game 3-2.  They are a struggling team right now and are looking very fragile.  The Canucks, on the other hand, had a very dissapointing first two periods against the LA Kings on Monday night, but came out hard in the third, but not hard enough to tie up the game.  They lost 3-2.

The Ducks haven’t won yet this month, so the Canucks definitely have that statistic in their favour.  Vancouver has lost two consecuitve road games, so hopefully by the end of the night tonight they can snap that streak and not have it continue to a 3 game skid.

The Canucks are going to have to shut down Corry Perry tonight, as he leads all Anaheim Ducks players with seven points aainst the Canucks this season.  Likewise, Steve Bernier leads the Canucks with 4 points against the Ducks this season.

Tonight’s game starts at 7pm PST in Anaheim, and is available on Canucks TV Pay Per View.  You can catch the game on the internet via live streaming online radio at the Team, team1040.ca  Let’s see if the Canucks can mae this trip .500 and make it 13-3 ion their last sixteen.  The playoffs are JUST around the corner.

Canucks Stellar Preseason Ends in OT Loss

Anaheim 4 – Canucks 3

The Canucks just couldn’t pull off a perfect pre-season, after heading into Sundays game against the Ducks, the Canucks had won all 6 of their preseason games.

Vancouver fell behind half way into the first period when Mattias Olund was sitting out for a 5 minute major for boarding, and former Canucks Brendan Morrison scored on the power play to make it 1-0.  It was back and forth all game, featuring a toal of 4 power play goals, 3 of them by Vancouver.

One of the plays of the night was Mason Raymond’s best impression of a young Pavel Bure, going around the offensive zone with complete control of the puck, deking back and forth before lifting the puck up into the back of the net.  Raymond looks extremely promising for the regular season, and will definitely be one to watch.

Goals in Sunday’s game were scored by: Henrik Sedin (Daniel Sedin, Kyle Wellwood), Mason raymond (Alex Edler, Pavol Demitra), Mason Raymond (Pavol Demitra, Alex Edler).

The Canucks pre-season is now over, and they will open the regular season at home at GM Place on Thursday te 9th vs the Calgary Flames.  The game will be broadcast on CBC as well as played live on Team1040 am.  You can listen to the Canucks games live at http://www.team1040.ca

Canucks Remain Undefeated

The Canucks have made it a perfect start to the pre-season.  They have played 4 games and have won all 4, with tonight’s win coming courtesy of a shoot-out victory.

The game was a see-saw battle througout, with Anaheim scoring first 1 minute into the second period, with Vancouver replying back eight minutes later.   The teams traded goals right until the end, when Anaheim scored with just over two minutes left in the third period to tie up the game.

The Canucks spent alot of time in the sin bin, amassing 13 penalties totalling 32 minutes, and gave up two goals on 10 Anaheim power play opportunities, totalling 16:38 of power-play time.  On the other hand, the Canucks were two for four on the power-play, with only fine and a half minutes of power play time.

Canucks Beat Sharks

Canucks remain undefeated in pre-season, beating Sharks 3-2

The San Jose Sharks couldn’t get a goal past Roberto Luongo through two periods where they could only amass 14 total shots.  Cory Schneider played as the Canucks netminder for the third period, and while he did let in 2 goals, he also faced a whopping 23 shots on net!

With the Canucks win tonight, they are now undefeated in the preseason with a 3 and 0 record, defeating the Oilers twice, once at home, and once on the road, and now the Sharks on the road.  Victory may not be a long lasting effect though, as the Canucks face off against the Anaheim Ducks tomorrow  night at 5pm pacific time.

Goal scorers in tonight’s game included Pavol Demitra, Jason Krog, and Jannik Hansen.  All three Canucks goals came on specialty units, with Krog’s goal, assisted by Hansen, being scored while shorthanded.   The Canucks finished 2 for 7 on the powerplay, and the Sharks were 1 for 8, including 4 back to back powerplays in the third period.

You can catch the Canucks next game on Sportsnet at 5:05pm Pacific time tomorrow against Brian Burke’s Anaheim Ducks.
